World Hepatitis Day 2026

What is Hepatitis?

Hepatitis means “liver inflammation”, and hepatitis C is an infection in the liver caused by the hep C virus. Just in Ontario, there are 210,000 people living with chronic hep C, and 2 in 5 don’t even know about their infection.

Anyone can have hep C, and the only way to know if you have it is to get tested.

If untreated, hep C can lead to cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer, causing many preventable deaths every year. With an easy and simple treatment and the possibility of cure, we have all the tools we need to eliminate hep C!
