The Nail Salon Workers Program is made up of current and former nail technicians, health promoters, and community partners. The program relies on partnerships with community agencies who share similar objectives and goals. Through such collaborations, we use our shared ability to advocate and create change in the nail salon industry. The program also creates opportunities to learn together, while supporting the well-being of nail technicians.
How We Work
As the Nail Salon Workers Project aims to improve the working conditions and health outcomes of those who work in the discount nail salon sector, the program builds connections within communities to drive the work. Using community development principles and the social determinants of health framework, a variety of health promotion activities that deepen our understanding of the risks and barriers faced within the sector are completed. From the learnings, strategies that respond to community needs are further developed. Additionally, evaluations of the program are done to allow continuous improvement to the work, which adapts the program to best meet the needs of the communities served.
The program occurs throughout the Greater Toronto Area. All resources published are translated into multiple languages.
