The labour movement was created by people working together for fair wages, safe workplaces and decent work hours. Many of the workplace benefits and standards workers enjoy today, such as minimum wage and health and safety regulations, are a direct result of work done by the labour movement.
Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre is proud to work with the unions representing our workers. The workers are an important resource as they enable us to deliver our mission by providing high quality care and services to our clients and communities.

Ontario Nursing Association
The Ontario Nursing Association (ONA) is the Union representing approximately 10 of our nursing staff, from Registered Nurses to Nurse Practitioners, at the Queen West Site.
Certification and the first Collective Agreement with the ONA Region 3, Local 95 at Queen West took place in 1985.
Founded in Toronto in 1973, the ONA is the trade union that represents 60,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals working throughout Ontario, which include, but are not limited to: hospitals; community health; long-term care; public health; clinics; and industry.
The ONA is a proactive union committed to improving the economic welfare and quality of work-life for its members, to enable them to provide high-quality health care.

United Food and Commercial Workers Canada
A union history that goes back to 1899, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) is the Union representing over 70 positions at Queen West and Parkdale sites. Both sites are unionized under two different bargaining units.
- Certification with UFCW Local 175 at Queen West took place in 2002 and the first Collective Agreement was in effect June 22, 2003.
- Certification with UFCW Local 175 at Parkdale took place in 1996/97 and the first Collective Agreement was in effect in 1999
Both bargaining units remain in place in the integrated Parkdale Queen West CHC.
Local 175 represents over 3,000 workers in the Health, Office & Professional Employees (HOPE) sector of Ontario. These workplaces, including retirement and nursing care homes and community care facilities, employ some very compassionate and hardworking individuals.
Local 175 has improved wages, benefits, and a grievance/arbitration procedure, as well as protects employees’ health and safety on the job by ensuring members have a safe and healthy work environment each and every day.
